Overview

Summary

The Local API provides a RESTful local network interface to monitor and control Daikin, Goodman and Amana brand Smart Thermostats over the LAN. Each thermostat exposes its own HTTP endpoint, discovered using multicast DNS (mDNS), and can be read from or written to without a cloud connection.

Data Format

JSON is used in response bodies. Control and settings requests are submitted as application/x-www-form-urlencoded.

Compatibility

Daikin: One+, One Touch  ·

Amana® brand Smart Thermostats

Goodman Smart Thermostat and Daikin One Lite Thermostat are not supported for Local API v1.0.

Limitations

  • Zones without a thermostat are not supported in v1.0.
  • All temperature values are reported and written in degrees Celsius (ºC).
  • Fan and dry modes are only supported by VRV (P1P2) and Single/Multi-Split (S21) equipment.
  • The Local API is disabled by default and must be enabled on each thermostat.

Discovery

Last updated: October 28, 2026

mDNS Service Discovery

Multicast DNS (mDNS) resolves hostnames to IP addresses within small networks without a conventional DNS server, using IP multicast over UDP. It offers zero-configuration networking and automatic service discovery, with wide platform support (Bonjour, Avahi, Windows 10+).

FieldValue
IPv4 Address224.0.0.251
Port5353

Enabling the Local API

The Local API is disabled by default and must be enabled directly on the thermostat. It cannot be enabled through the SkyportHome app.

Ensure the thermostat is updated to the latest firmware before enabling.
  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi.
  3. Select Local API.
  4. Toggle the setting to ON.

Discovering Thermostats

Service Type

_http._tcp.local.

Discovery Methods

# macOS / iOS (Bonjour)
dns-sd -B _http._tcp local.

# Linux (Avahi)
avahi-browse -r _http._tcp

FieldDescriptionExample

brandThermostat branddaikin, amana
typeInstallation typeresidential, commercial
macMAC address00:23:a7:3a:b2:72

Accessing the API

http://192.168.1.100:8081/
http://daikinone-thermostat-001234.local:8081/

Service Announcements

With the Local API enabled, thermostats announce themselves on boot, repeat periodically (every 2–3 minutes), and send a goodbye message (TTL=0) on graceful shutdown. mDNS records use a TTL of 120 seconds; a service with no announcement within its TTL should be considered unavailable.

Getting Started

  1. Enable the Local API on each thermostat.
  2. Discover thermostats on the LAN using mDNS.
  3. Construct the base URL from the discovered IP (or hostname) and port.
  4. Call the endpoints below over HTTP. Reads use GET; control and settings use POST (application/x-www-form-urlencoded).

End Points

MethodEndpointDescription
GET/API version and thermostat type
GET/query/infoThermostat status and settings
POST/controlSet mode and setpoints
POST/settingsChange thermostat settings

API Information

GET /

Returns the current API version and the thermostat type (residential or commercial).

{
  "api_ver": 1,
  "type": "residential",
  "model": "oneplus",
  "brand": "daikin",
  "firmware": "1.0.0"
}

Control

POST /control

Control the thermostat by setting mode and temperature setpoints. All parameters are optional — omitted parameters retain their current values.

POST /control HTTP/1.1
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded

mode=0&fan=0&heatSetpoint=25&coolSetpoint=27
ParameterDefinitionValues
modeThermostat mode0 off, 1 heat, 2 cool, 3 auto, 4 em. heat, 5 fan, 6 dry
fanFan setting0 off, 1 always on, 2 schedule
heatSetpointHeat-to temperatureºC
coolSetpointCool-to temperatureºC
Temperature constraints — Must be within the min/max from /query/info. In Auto mode, coolSetpoint must be at least setpointDelta above heatSetpoint. Always in ºC.

Settings

POST /settings
POST /settings HTTP/1.1
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded

tempUnits=0&setpointDelta=0
ParameterDefinitionValues
tempUnitsTemperature units0 Fahrenheit, 1 Celsius
setpointDeltaMin delta heat/coolNumeric (e.g. 2)

Error Handling

Unsuccessful requests return a JSON object with an error flag and a reason.

{
  "error": true,
  "reason": "Descriptive error message"
}
