Daikin ALTHERMA is a 3-in-1 heat pump system designed to provide heating, cooling, and domestic hot water.
This air-to-water heat pump system is ideal for homeowners, particularly in cold regions, looking to upgrade their boiler or fossil fuel heating system to an all-electric, efficient solution.
The heat pump is designed to provide indoor temperature control by drawing energy from the outdoor air and transferring it into water. That heated or cooled water then circulates through your home’s system, like underfloor heating, radiators, or fan coils, to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature

The Air-to-Water Difference
While every air source heat pump gathers or releases heat, the difference between an air-to-water heat pump and an air-to-air heat pump is in HOW that heat is used.
Some systems use the energy from the air to heat your home, while others use the air's heat energy to heat water to keep your space comfortable. The Daikin ALTHERMA can do both.
- An air-to-water heat pump heats water, which then warms your home through radiators and underfloor heating, and can even provide hot water.
- An air-to-air heat pump connects to an air handler, allowing it to blow warm air through ductwork and vents, much like a traditional gas furnace.
However, Daikin ALTHERMA doesn’t just heat your home; it has the power to cool it, too!
- An air-to-water heat pump, on the other hand, reverses cycle to cool water. The chilled water circulates through underfloor systems or fan coil units, gently lowering the indoor temperature for consistent and comfortable cooling.
- An air-to-air heat pump operates much like traditional central air conditioners. They send cool air through your home’s ductwork and vents.

Reliable in Cold Climates: Designed to operate in cold climate conditions down to -18°F (-28°C) and still heat water up to 160°F.
Proven and Future-focused: Features R-32 low Global Warming Potential refrigerant, which improves energy efficiency and reduces emissions (compared to traditional R-410A systems). However, there is no refrigerant piping inside the home.
Innovative Design: Complimentary grey style enhances the unit’s appearance, but its fan design also helps diminish noise perceptions for a serene outdoor (and indoor) environment.

ELEVATE QUIET
Engineered for Tranquility
Indoor Unit: The indoor unit operates at 41 dBA, similar to the sounds inside a library. The unit offers additional flexibility with a LOW mode, which lowers sound pressures down to a very quiet 35 dBA.
Outdoor Unit: The outdoor unit incorporates a unique ‘invisible’ fan shape to minimize the air contact surface, helping to maintain a low sound level. Three layers of insulation surround the compressor to minimize operational sounds. To further enhance the quiet, the ALTHERMA features double sound reduction pads between the bottom plate and the vibration plate.
